Developed by The Biodiversity Consultancy, BRiSK is a science-based location screening tool that identifies the state of nature at your sites and sourcing areas, across terrestrial, freshwater, and marine realms. It draws on over 20 curated global nature datasets, giving you a comprehensive picture of the state and trends of nature.
BRiSK scales from a single site to over 90,000 sites. It works at whatever level of spatial precision you have – from exact coordinates to country-level traceability – making it practical for complex supply chains where data quality varies.
Outputs align directly with major reporting frameworks, including TNFD, SBTN, CSRD, GRI, and IFC PS6, and can be tailored to your specific requirements (e.g., corporate policies).

How BRiSK works
BRiSK follows a structured, repeatable methodology. We take your location data — sites, sourcing areas, or regions — and apply scientifically defined buffer zones based on your operation type and sector to capture direct and indirect areas of influence. We then extract and score indicators across five categories: biodiversity importance, ecosystem condition, water and pollution, land-use change, and nature's contributions to people. For each we look at both state and trends. Each location is classified on a five-point scale from ‘Very Low’ to ‘Very High’, enabling rapid comparison and prioritisation across your portfolio. Output values for each indicator are also provided to facilitate next steps like ground-truthing identified risks at priority sites. Our experts then interpret the results in the context of your business, sector, and reporting needs, providing you with actionable guidance on next steps.
