Discover, Engage, and Contribute
Welcome to the BFIS (Biodiversity Footprint Impact from Sites) public consultation hosted by The Biodiversity Consultancy (TBC) and TotalEnergies. We invite you to explore and comment on a suite of resources designed to provide context, technical insight, and practical understanding of the BFIS tool.
BFIS is a standardised framework designed to evaluate, manage, monitor, and report biodiversity impacts across a company’s site-based operations portfolio. Developed to support businesses meet emerging policy expectations, BFIS guides users through a stepwise process to cost-effectively estimate quantitative impacts, screen sites to identify those with higher biodiversity risk, and validate findings using site-level (primary) data. This enables prioritisation of proportionate mitigation actions and monitoring efforts. BFIS also supports annual reporting of portfolio-level quantitative impacts and site-specific outcomes. BFIS was co-developed through a collaboration between TBC and TotalEnergies and is jointly owned by both parties.
To make the most of the resources provided, we invite you to:

We also encourage you to share your thoughts through our dedicated feedback questionnaire, designed to capture your perspectives in a structured yet flexible format. Access the questionnaire here
Public consultation will remain open but we kindly ask to provide feedback by the 20th of September if you would like your feedback to be incorporated into the next version of the documents.
