WBCSD’s Nature Action Portal: a new tool for navigating nature metrics

28 January 2026

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) has unveiled its Nature Action Portal, a fantastic resource designed to empower businesses in navigating the complex landscape of nature metrics. This innovative platform enables companies to identify the most suitable actions, frameworks, and metrics as part of a nature strategy - tailored to their operations and value chains.

How the Nature Action portal helps businesses

The approach involved assessing the metrics required under leading frameworks and working with companies in WBCSD’s network and external experts to assess the most relevant actions and metrics for each sector. Covering a wide array of sectors—including agri-food, forest products, energy, built environment, and pharmaceuticals—the Nature Action Portal also addresses supply chain issues and cross-cutting topics like water stewardship.

Its broad scope makes it a valuable and practical tool for organisations seeking to identify the most suitable metrics and actions as part of their nature strategy – allowing a user to easily filter based on their sector, the relevant frameworks, and feasibility.

The Biodiversity Consultancy’s role in developing the Nature Action Portal

The Biodiversity Consultancy (TBC) supported the development of the Nature Action Portal through our continued work with WBCSD. We worked with WBCSD, helping to review frameworks and identify the most relevant and feasible metrics and actions for the forestry sector, and for water stewardship. This work fed directly into the portal and leant on our expertise working across diverse business sectors and on metric design and mitigation action design.

Cindy Cosset, Consultant at TBC said “It was fantastic to lead the forestry sector value chain work at TBC, working closely with the WBCSD FSG team. Through a collaborative approach to gather industry expertise and insights from their members and external experts, this led to some great discussions, and ensured the portal highlights the most relevant and feasible metrics for each sector”

The portal’s launch event featured insights from Malcolm Starkey, Chief Innovation Officer at TBC, who emphasised the resource’s importance in helping businesses prioritise actions and deliver meaningful outcomes for nature.
