Jan-Willem specialises in biodiversity risk profiling, Critical Habitat Assessment and environmental impact assessment, with a particular focus on IFC Performance Standard 6 compliance. Prior to joining TBC, he worked for the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre where he led the application of marine biodiversity and ecosystem service data to support decision making. Jan-Willem also has a wealth of practical experience developing and implementing long-term research and marine conservation projects across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Central America.

Through his previous experience working within the NGO realm and subsequent posting with the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre in Cambridge, Jan-Willem has gained a solid understanding of the challenges in conserving biodiversity at both the local and global scale.

He is passionate about working closely with decision makers to find pragmatic solutions to these challenges, providing expert guidance and capacity building across multiple sectors. Jan-Willem has synthesised and disseminated a wide range of environmental impact, policy guidance and management reports and presented these to various audiences including policy makers, practitioners and the private sector.

Although originally from the Netherlands, Jan-Willem was raised in diplomatic circles across several nations and ethnic backdrops. This experience has given him the tact and awareness to facilitate successful partnerships across geographical and cultural borders.
